about

This is a song of hopeful promises. The expressive sensibility of the piece puts the baritone ukulele in a different light from the rest of the instrument’s repertoire.

“Aria / Prelude” contains romantic musical moments that feel like they originate from sources seem akin to Chopin and at other times shades of J.S. Bach or the folk music of the Piedmont South. Contemporary minimalism takes over the work’s counterpoint, which is expressed through the ‘Campanella’ or ‘little bells’ technique of plucking. The composer states: “I want to channel the expressive power of a grand piano or symphony orchestra through the ukulele.”
